2007 Highlights
The SWEAT Team had another fantastic year in 2007!! The ministry has changed some thru our 9 years, but 2007 changed dramatically in its help to the single mom.
With our usual disaster work and NYC trip, the majority of the work was for single moms. Divorce has devastated these precious families and the SWEAT Team has
helped in a variety of ways. Most of the work was to the home but a significant part was to be there for them when the fiery darts came upon them. One mom at the
end of her rope just cried out to the Lord for help with her house; our evangelism team knocked on her door an hour later and asked if we could help with her home.
We didn't know her and she didn't know who was knocking on her door, but God answers prayer and we helped her out and she started attending out Wednesday night
bible study!! This is our story for the year 2007:
January
January brought us to Zan's ranch with fence work, plumbing, painting, cabinet remodel, cleanup, tree trimming, and even a garage sale at the end. What a great relationship we built with Zan and her family, the highlight was a steak dinner at her ranch at the end of 2 months of work.
February
February brought us to a single mom who's husband was killed just 2 blocks away from her trailer. It was special for me because I was able to present a pictorial Gospel to Darla and her small family. After that she brought out the articles of her husbands auto accident and it was very touching. We roofed the trailer, removed trees, leveled her driveway, and built a rear deck and front steps.
March
March came and we were able to help Shelly with flooring, fence work, painting and yard work. My wife and I will never forget this wonderful women because we were able to lead her to Christ and she attended Denton Bible with us. We eventually moved her to Wisconsin so she could nurse her dying father.
April
April brought floods so devastating to our own Denton and other area cities that it made national news. We did flood work in Denton, Gainesville, and Wichita Falls. Mostly cleanup was done but some sheetrocking and flooring were accomplished. Helping Vicente and Martha with their flooded home was a relationship we won't forget. Vicente is a stroke victim who had to be carried out in a boat by the paramedics when the house flooded, the SWEAT Team went in and tore out sheetrock, restored the sheeting rock, taped and bedded, and painted. Vival, one of our volunteers was able to hook up Vicente with Mike and Leslie Auvenshine, Mike is an M.D. who got the right rehab for Vicente to improve from his stroke. Their house was restored and all this accomplished without flood insurance.
May
May saw us traveling to Sanger to help Christy and her 3 children. She was forced from her home by a husband who was losing his sanity; it got so bad she had to flee a nice house and move to a rundown trailer. We repaired the roof, hung doors, and hung blinds. She is an impressive women who eventually came out to volunteer on the Team.
June
Lisa, a member of DBC, asked for help in June for her mother who needed a wheelchair ramp due to poor health. Our skilled guys had to work this one out, the design had to be just right because of all sorts of obstacles around her house.
July
July brought Nikki, a single mom with 2 children with severe disabilities. The team built her a fence, replaced windows, fixed a difficult plumbing problem, and did a ton of yard work.
August / September
August and September had us help Vonnie George a widow who lost her husband just 6 months before we came in. Jack her husband who died was a friend of mine and at one time helped on the SWEAT Team. It was really good to help her. Her ranch needed mostly cleanup, landscaping, and a lot of yard work.
October
October had us help another single mom with 3 children. Tracy needed tree trimming, fence work, and staining. I remember this one because our evangelism team including Janice and Todd went door to door in Tracy' s neghborhood. The Gospel went out and we helped 4 or 5 of her neighbors with a variety of work.
November
November had our New YorK City team remodeling and painting a church in Brooklyn and our usual street and subway evangelism in Manhattan. Darlene and Kelly witnessed to a famous hairdresser from L.A. and he even invited them to his apartment to cut Kelly's hair. That is real relationship evangelism.
December
December is the month we met Ginny; she is the one who prayed for help and we showed up a hour later to help her. She redid her Gazebo, landscaped, cleaned, and did plumbing work. Ginny, like I said came to our Bible study on Wed. night and is really special to us.
Blessings to you
